This week, we are talking ceremony venue. Some of our brides have known since they were little girls that they want to get married in a garden or an ornate church or on the beach…. but others are completely torn and don’t know where to start. So for today, a little food for thought when you’re making the big decision of where to get hitched!

1. Weather

This is the most obvious concern for most couples. Depending on what time of year you are getting married, you could be battling heat, rain, snow, cold… you name it! For this reason, when booking an outdoor ceremony, we always recommend having a backup option in the event you need to move your wedding indoors, whether that is a tent or a building at your venue of choice. If you’re the type of person who will be super stressed out making a last minute change to your plan, an outdoor ceremony may not be the best fit. But if you find a place where you like the alternate options and won’t be heartbroken if you have to move the celebration inside, the risk might be worth it if you’ve dreamed of an outdoor wedding!

2. Cost

There are often additional costs associated with an outdoor ceremony that many brides may not initially be considering. For example, if you’ll be having your reception outdoors or if you don’t have a suitable indoor backup option, you will likely need to rent a tent. In addition, many venues require you to rent and pay for setup of additional chairs or other decor for the outdoor space. Fortunately, the natural beauty of the outdoors typically requires that you spend less on decorations. Indoors you will likely find yourself adding lighting to enhance the space as well as additional decor to transform it into your dream wedding location.

3. Atmosphere

As long as weather cooperates, there isn’t much that can compare to the beauty of an outdoor ceremony. It’s just impossible to recreate the beauty of the outdoors inside! There is no substitute for the way the natural light makes a bride glow and sets the stage for a breathtaking wedding. That being said, an indoor venue gives you the opportunity to be much more in control of the event. There will be no last minute changes – you will be able to view your space and ensure that everything is perfect prior to walking down the aisle!

There are clear benefits to both types of wedding venues, which is why many of our couples decide NOT to decide. If you’re on the fence, look for an all-in-one venue where you have gorgeous indoor and outdoor options. That way you can easily plan for an outdoor ceremony and move inside in the event you are faced with inclement weather of any kind! Many brides opt to do an outdoor ceremony with an indoor reception to get the best of both worlds.

Consider the season you’ll be getting married and what the typical weather looks like, consider your budget, and listen to your heart! If you love the tradition of getting married in a church, do it. If you swoon over the architecture and elegance of an ornate ballroom, make it happen. If your dream is to have an outdoor wedding of any kind, whether it’s an intimate ceremony in the mountains, a laid back beach wedding, or a huge gathering of all your friends and family in a beautiful garden, do it! Just work with your photographer and wedding planner to have a backup plan in place to eliminate stress on your big day.
